MEDIA RELEASE BY DEPARTMENT OF DEFENCE:
NOMINATIONS FOR THE PERMANENT NATIONAL DEFENCE
FORCE SERVICE COMMISSION WILL SOON BE INVITED.
Date of release 19 October 2011
The Department of Defence wishes to announce
that nominations for the permanent National
Defence Force Service Commission (DFSC) will
soon be invited. The DFSC has been established
in terms of the Defence Amendment Act, 2010 (Act
22 of 2010), assented to by the President on 09
December 2010 and promulgated in Government
Gazette No 33866.
Soon after her appointment, the Minister of
Defence and Military Veterans Ms Lindiwe Sisulu
announced in her budget vote speech in 2009 that
her priority would be, improved conditions of
service for the South African National Defence
Force, (SANDF) members.
As a result, the Minister moved swiftly to
establish the Interim National Defence Force
Service Commission (INDFSC) to, amongst others,
investigate and make recommendations for a
unique dispensation for the soldiers outside of
the regular public service and to investigate
the conditions of service of SANDF members and
make recommendations in connection therewith.
In accordance with section 62C(1) of the Act,
the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans
will soon invite interested persons from the
South African public, organisations,
institutions and civil society at large to
nominate suitable members to be appointed as
Commissioners to the DFSC.
