Quality maintenance at a cost-effective service

Date of release 22 March 2012

The South African Air Force in partnership with Denel aviation will be launching the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) during certificate signing ceremony at Air Force Base Waterkloof on 23 March 2012. This partnership (MRO) is meant to ensure that SAAF’s fleet remains in a serviceable conditions.

SAAF and Denel’s partnership follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed between them in February 2012. The maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) is intended to promote collaboration and cooperation between the parties. This is intended to ensure consolidation and retention of capabilities and scarce skills.

The contribution by Denel Aviation has been immensely great considering its role in keeping SAAF’s Hercules C130 fully operational, the training of artisans and technicians. This collaboration complements the work done by the maintenance crew.

In addition to being the Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) of Rooivalk and design authority on the Oryx helicopter and responsible for MRO, Denel Aviation also provides upgrades and systems integration work on designated aircraft types in the SAAF fleet.
