3rd Annual Battlefields Festival: 12 May 2012

On Saturday, 12 May 2012, at 10h00, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) will, in support of the 3rd Annual Battlefields Festival, present a Freedom of Entry Parade, at the Town Hall, Murchison Street in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal.The parade will be executed in close co-operation with the Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality.

The aim of this parade is to enhance the celebrations of the 3rd Annual Battlefields Festival as part of a multiplicity of events that highlight the 118 days of heroic withstanding of the siege of the town, by the people. The 3rd Annual Battlefields Heritage Festival will be community orientated with outreach in particular to educational activities.

The colours of the following Regiments/units will form part of the Freedom of Entry Parade:

5 South African Infantry Battalion, 121 South African Infantry Battalion, Natal Carbineers, Natal Mounted Rifles, Umvoti Mounted Rifles, Durban Light Infantry, Natal Field Artillery, Light Horse Regiment, Vrystaat Artillerie Regiment, Transvaal Staatsartillerie Regiment, a platoon from the Duke of Lancaster Regiment UK and a platoon from the South African Police Service (SAPS) will also participate in the parade.
