Fatal parachute accident claims life of a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) member

The SANDF confirms that there was an accident in Bloemfontein involving a SANDF member during a routine training.

The member jumped and landed safely but was whisked by strong wind before he could release himself from the parachute after landing and bumped around for a period of hundred metres (100m), he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Chief of the SANDF and Chief of the SA Army extend their sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased.

The name of the deceased will not be disclosed until their next-of-kin have beeninformed.
