SANDF and the Military Ombud signs an MOU

INTRO: Chief of the SA National Defence Gen Solly Shoke, the Military Ombudsman Lt Gen (Ret) Themba Matanzima and the Secretary for Defence, Mr Sam Gulube have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Defence Headquarters in Pretoria on 15 July 2014.
The two institutions have committed themselves to enter into a bilateral co-operative agreement to provide a regulated cooperation for the benefit of the Military Ombud and to assist him in the execution of his legislated mandate.
The purpose of the MOU is to provide a co-operative framework to assist the military Ombud and the department with efficient, effective and continued cooperation as required for the operation of the Office of the Military Ombud.
The Office of the Military Ombud is a statutory body established in terms of the Military Ombud Act 4 of 2012 to investigate complaints lodged by either current of former members of the SA National Defence Force regarding conditions of service and complaints lodged by the public regarding the conduct of members of the SANDF.
Gen Shoke said the SANDF will give its support to the Military Ombud and ensure that people comply with regulations from the office. Maj Gen (Ret) Matanzima also mentioned that the MOU will cement relations and create an enabling environment for the Military Ombud office to execute its mandate.
