Border Management Agency launch at Skukuza -Mpumalanga

The launch of Operation Pyramid which is a front-runner to the Border Management Agency (BMA) will take place on 19 June 2015 at Skukuza, Mpumalanga Province.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) will be one of the national departments that will play a key role in the execution of the tasks of the BMA.

The BMA is currently encapsulated in Operation Pyramid. Operation Pyramid is a cabinet approved initiative for enhancing border security and control. The objective of Operation Pyramid is to embrace the three dimensions of borderline environment which are: air, land and sea.

The role and functions of Operation Pyramid are as follows:

  • To realign existing projects, operations, programmes and initiatives of Government in the borderline environment.
  • To develop borderline management to ensure greater cooperative governance.
  • To improve integrated borderline performance, strengthen the long-term border security and address security concerns along the South African borders and borderline.
