As the year 2017 rounds up and we approach the festive holiday season, the Chief of the SA National Defence Force, Gen Solly Shoke hosted the annual Thanksgiving Service held at Defence Headquarters in Pretoria on 29 November 2017.

The aim of the Service was to afford Chief of the SANDF a platform to convey his message of goodwill and spread Christmas cheer to all SANDF members and their civilian couterparts before they go on their well-deserved end of the year vacation.

The Chaplain General of the SANDF, Brig Gen (Rev) Andrew Jamangile, and his team of Chaplains led the service in songs of praise and prayers.

The Chief of the SANDF, Gen Solly Shoke thanked members for having worked exceptionally hard throughout 2017. “Today I stand before you here to say thank you for what you have done during very difficult circumstances, to be able to achieve our constitutional mandate and I think you deserve applause. It is important say thank you to everybody who made it possible for us to achieve what we have achieved, because normally it is necessary when people do well to thank them for the job well done”, he said.

He pointed out that SANDF members are the custodians of peace and highlighted significance of exercising peace. “For us as soldiers who are custodians of security and peace in our country, it is important to emphasise inner peace because once we are at inner peace we will look at the world in a positive light”.

He added that people who have not yet found peace always look at the world negatively and focus on the negatives even if there is light.

He told those who will be taking time going on holiday to rest and enjoy the time with their loved ones to come back rejuvinated to work hard in 2018.
